Integration combines XGRIDS’ mobile capture solution with Volinga’s Unreal Engine plugin to enable high-quality, real-time photoreal 3DGS environments.
Volinga and XGRIDS have joined forces to deliver a groundbreaking pipeline for real-time 3D environment creation in Unreal Engine. The partnership combines XGRIDS’ multi-SLAM LiDAR capture technology, which delivers accurate, to-scale spatial data with easy and consistent field operation, with the Volinga Plugin for Unreal Engine. This integration enables direct import and real-time rendering of 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) outputs. The integration adds advanced creative tools, including re-lighting, full ACES color management, and seamless compatibility with nDisplay, VCam, Depth of Field, and other virtual production features in Unreal Engine.
Volinga offers the most advanced solution for integrating 3DGS into Unreal Engine, supporting the tools and workflows demanded by professional virtual production teams. Traditionally, capturing splats has required specialized skills, but XGRIDS’ SLAM sensors eliminate that barrier. With XGRIDS hardware, users can confidently capture high-quality splats with minimal training.
The partnership solves several pain points in 3D environment creation for production:
The result is a user-friendly, fast, and high-quality pipeline for producing 3D photoreal environments in Unreal Engine within hours, dramatically reducing both the time and cost traditionally associated with building real-world environments for production.
“At XGRIDS, our mission has always been to make high-quality spatial data truly usable — not just for specialists, but for creators across industries. Partnering with Volinga allows us to close the loop: from fast, accurate mobile scanning to photoreal, production-ready 3DGS environments in Unreal Engine — all in a matter of hours. We’re proud to help democratize cinematic-grade virtual production workflows and can’t wait to see how creators push the boundaries of what’s possible with this powerful pipeline.”
— Sunny Liao, Head of Global Business, XGRIDS
The partnership developed organically as more creators began combining the two technologies in their workflows, including projects like Picture from Auschwitz and District Cinema Virtual Pre-production. The growing overlap between Volinga and XGRIDS users made formal collaboration the logical next step.
“This partnership bridges the gap between reality capture and real-time storytelling,” said Fernando Rivas Manzaneque of Volinga. “By combining XGRIDS’ accurate, easy-to-use LiDAR capture with Volinga’s advanced rendering and integration capabilities, we’re giving creators and studios the speed, precision, and flexibility they need to bring real-world environments into production — whether it’s for virtual production, broadcast, or immersive experiences.”
The XGRIDS to Volinga pipeline is available now for Unreal Engine versions 5.3 through 5.6. Users simply export Gaussian Splat models from LCC Studio as PLY files and import them into the Volinga Plugin for Unreal Engine.
